The Diabolical Ironclad Beetle can withstand forces up to 39,000 times its body weight, even surviving being run over by a car. Its shell’s interlocking structure spreads pressure, a design now studied for stronger materials

I Can Only imagine evolving for millions of years so that I am safe from car tires.

The dirt is doing a lot of work here.

I suspect the outcome would be different if this was done on concrete.

    Hydraulic press channnnnelllll

I don’t think that wheel even touched it.

  5. SpareMushrooms より:

Now do it without the dirt.

  6. aravplayz より:

    diabolical indeed

  7. Ok-Smile8490 より:

Nature, Let’s make a bug that laughs at car tires. Engineers *sweating profusely*.

  8. bangarang-crow より:

Okay, but what about piercing damage?

  9. DeusExMachina24 より:

“Even birds and lizards can’t crush it”

Brother the video opened with a car failing to crush it.

Ok ok now tske it out of the soft dirt and put 8t on the pavement and if it leaves a dent in the pavement and walks away im forever a believer

  11. pcurve より:

    39,000 times = about 20kg.

These guys must hang out with clumsy elephants.

    Hydraulic Press channel, anyone?

  14. I’m pretty sure my foot could be run over if it was in a large pile of soft dirt lol

In Africa (and probably elsewhere) terrapins have their kids in puddles in the gravel roads. They are safe from predators and will go off and find a bigger home later. They seem to be quite fine with cars driving over them.

  16. next hollow knight confirmed?

  17. sunshineLD より:

Nature really said built different and meant it.

  18. Lol. Diabolical?

Car tire: Why won’t you die!?

Beetle: hehehe….(rip apart business shirt) nanomachine son! It harden in response to physical trauma, you can’t kill me jack!

  20. Hazywater より:

Normal car tires are like 35 psi. That bug was like an inch long, maybe a quarter wide embedded in dirt? 8.75 pounds of weight if it was evenly spread because of the dirt.

  21. metroscope より:

Something for the Hydraulic press channel.

  22. Rabbitpyth より:

Sort of a magician isnt she

  23. asepsuasep32 より:

well wheres the hydraulic press vs diabolical ironclad bettle

Proving yet again that only the force of managed democracy has the power the crush bugs.

So that’s what the Dragonroach’s armor is made of…

  26. rokor より:

Stop deliberately running over beetles, you asshole.

    Ironclad beetle vs hydraulic press

  28. Much-Gur233 より:

They ran over a beetle that can hold 43 pounds on its body. A car weighs significantly more than that. This is just bullshit.

  29. Clean_Park5859 より:

It seems intuitive that if you’re essentially a spec of dirt it’s infinitely easier for an organism to endure the weight of itself multiplied

  30. GatorNator83 より:

    A thing: *exists

Scientists: “How can we use this in humans killing humans?”

  31. omgitskae より:

    5 years from now:

Can you believe the previous administration spent a million dollars watching beetles get run over?

Can you believe the previous administration spent thousands of dollars watching beetles get run over?

Can you believe the previous administration spent BILLIONS of dollars watching beetles get run over?

  32. blaziken8x より:

silly test, run that thing over without dirt, see what happens
