>[Cha Sa-Soon’s first attempt](https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/news/motoring-news/woman-finally-passes-driving-test-after-960-attempts-costing-more-than-1100/) at the written test took place in April 2005, but she unfortunately failed.
Despite the disappointment, she continued to relentlessly take the test for the next few years. In total, Sa-soon sat the exam every day, five days a week over three years.
She then reduced this to two exams a week, until she finally passed the written test on her 860th attempt.
She then attempted to pass the practical test. But as you might imagine, this was also a challenging ordeal.
Cha Sa-Soon had to take the practical test an eye-watering 100 times, bringing the total number of driving examinations up to 960 before being able to have a full driving licence.
The estimated cost for all these exams was around £11,000 – not including driving lessons.
Her continued dedication to passing was driven by the fact that she needed to be able to drive for her vegetable-selling business.
According to Cha Sa-Soon’s driving instructor, when she finally passed, it was ‘a huge burden off their backs’.
Cha Sa-Soon’s instructor, at Jeonbuk Driving School, said: “When she finally got her licence, we all went out cheering and hugged her, giving her flowers.
“We hadn’t had the guts to tell her to quit because she kept showing up.”
Following the news of her success at the 960th attempt, South Korean car manufacturer Hyundai gifted her a brand new vehicle worth £11,640.
Dunno, after a certain amount of tries, I honestly think you should get banned from getting it. You are clearly not fit for driving a vehicle if you have to do it 960 times to pass.
How does it take 860 attempts to pass a written test? After a few dozen tries you will have seen every question. Even if you don’t fundamentally understand the rules of the road, by purely memorizing questions/answers you should be able to pass.
After a few tests it’s pretty clear it’s a matter of logic, so if she cannot comprehend logic then she shouldn’t drive.
How is it possible to fail that much tests ? There is obviously something wrong going on (no offense to the girl or the one that made the tests). So I suspect some kind of logic that doesn’t compute with that person’s brain.
I mean, we all probably know an autistic person that can react irrationally given a specific situation. So I suspect that girl to have the same reaction or something when given multiples situations that defies her logic. I mean, even myself there were some test I wasn’t “ok” but I knew I had to answers according to their points of view so I went with it. That girl ? She probably tried to do that with her best but there were probably many situations where she would get conflicting answers, and her brains would just fry.
Putting that $10,000 on public transport and cab fare would have saved her a whole lot of time and effort. Sometimes driving yourself just isn’t worth it.
She failed the written test that many times? I didn’t even open the dmv handbook once and passed the written test my first try. Took it blind. It’s basically common sense questions.

I reckon she’ll be dangerous in traffic.

Her ginger goatee was also unusual
Real life SpongeBob SquarePants.
in germany you pay half of that just to get your driving license on the first try :skull:
That … sound quite cheap actually, around $10/attempt
Spongebob IRL

That’s some serious persistence, I don’t think I could handle more than a few tries before giving up.
So wait…. You mean to tell me…

I bet Mrs. Puff is exhausted.
ok spongebob
Amazing persistence.
Getting your license in the Netherlands tales on average about €2,000 so I don’t find $10,000 to be that extreme of a number tbh
SpongeBob behavior
P sure it’s spongebob
Is her teacher a puffer fish perhaps?
1. Her 2. SpongeBob
960 attempts at 69 years old is certainly a feat, albeit a.questionable one.

The biggest surprise is how cheap it was. An attempt goes for like €300 each time in my country
I think that I was driving behind her today
In my country, it would have cost $288 000
Yes, the calculations are chat assisted, but it’s true to a certain extent
Meanwhile here in the midwest it is free to take the test and you only pay if you pass, and the fee is like $20.
I’m just amazed that it’s only 10k for 960 tests? You’d be at 10k if you fail twice in Germany.
This would cost well over 250.000 euro’s in my country.
RM’s worst nightmare (iykyk)
It’s been 15yrs and no one has managed to find out if she had her license revoked or how many traffic violations she had ?
Not helping with those stereotypes.
Needs to be banned from driving for 955 lifetimes.
스폰지밥네모바지?!
could have passed faster had she slides those 10k to the one observing her test
everyone knows that the true driving test is knowing whose pocket you have to drive your wallet to
Hmmm… maybe that’s the woman that was driving the wrong way yesterday? 😝
[deleted]
Shes probably a far better driver than 99% of drivers in my city.
If she would answer randomly, probably she would pass it faster 🤣
Actually quite cheap for so many trials
Only recently beaten by someone taking 5 tests in the UK.
Maybe if you could see over steering wheel you could blake soona! /s
