Former ride operator.. this is why we are so strict with not letting certain people ride .. it’s not because we don’t want you to have fun , we care about our reputation and your safety ..
IIRC, the ride operator originally told him he couldn’t ride, but he made a huge stink about being a veteran and discriminating against disabled people, so the employee let him on just to shut him up and not cause a scene.
The recent coaster fatality was also a wheelchair user.
Aright. Bring the downvotes. I feel like this has got to be on him a LITTLE bit. I don’t think every ride operator is gonna be prepared for such a specific scenario.

So this ride only had a lap restraint and seat belts and the dude with no legs thought it was a smart idea to go on this ride? Talk about a Darwin Award. I mean the park deserves hate for letting him ride but at the same time dudes gotta have an ounce of common sense and realize there’s a pretty high chance things aren’t going to go well for him.
To be fair he was warned that he wasn’t walking away from the ride.
I went to Darien lake the day after this happened. Ride of Steel was obviously closed but the park was so empty my friend and I were able to ride the Predator about 30 times in a row without getting off

Worked in a theme park before. They have very specific rules about restraints or seatbelt that at least “one extremity needs to go past the restraint in order for them to ride”

I know rides people at the park near me and they say parents get pissy at them all the time for not letting their kids who are slightly under the height requirement onto the rides.
That’s so unfortunate. I assumed it was a lieutenant Dan situation where he at least has part of the leg but the article I read has a photo that clearly shows his legs are entirely gone.
