Did not know this when I first saw Taxi Driver in the 90s. Was deeply creeped out by some of the scenes, given it was made in the 70s when highly inappropriate cinematic decisions were made regarding child actors. Was quite relieved to find out it was a double.
If you think this was scandalous, try Pretty Baby with Brooke Shields, that scarred me as a kid watching it. What’s with the 70s???? Plus why the hell did my parents LET me see it???
Unfortunately, this was probably closer to what was actually happening on the streets back then. It might be cringe to us because hopefully, fewer kids are forced into such depraved reality but we know it is still happening. Maybe not so much in the US anymore, again hopefully.
What explicit scenes? Her talking about sex with the main character? Dancing with her pimp? There’s no nudity and no sex. What did she need a stand in for? Dialogue?
Was the character supposed to be underage? I’ve never seen the film so I appreciate I may be missing context here. But if not, why didn’t they just get an adult actress?
This was also how they got around Child labor laws protecting the younger Jodie Foster. They could do a ton of shots over her sister’s shoulder, making it look like Jodie was in the scene when in fact it was her sister.

Well that’s a relief
Same happened with Foster in *The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane,* same year.
Try explaining that to the officer..
Grossness aside, it really is wild how similar they look. 12 vs 20 is a massive difference.

That makes me only a slightly less uncomfortable
Reminder that child porn wasn’t made explicitly illegal until 1978 with the enactment of the Protection of Children Against Sexual Exploitation Act.
Someone tell John Hinckley Jr it wasn’t even Jodi in those scenes haha

She’s 12? Damn they were old back then.
What parents let her young child play a whore?
Damn, what an interesting case of sibling rivalry that must have been.
“They only want you because of your butt!”
“Yeah, well they only want you for your face!”
Maybe I’m missing something, but wouldn’t a better decision have been to cast a young looking 20 year old to do the entire movie?
Was the actress girl (on the western tv show) in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood based on Jodie Foster? Even professional as a child.
Man, people aged faster back in the day.

Let’s see… hmmm… maybe they could’ve just… CASTED THE OLDER SISTER IN THE FIRST PLACE.
The scene in the apartment flat where she burns the cigarette? That scene? I have to rewatch it.
No one wanted to impress her sister Connie, though.
Surprising actor safety in the 70s is relieving
You don’t need to put “explicit” in scare quotes.
People forget how utterly depraved and f*ed up the 70’s were across the board.

Why does a 12 year old have explicit scenes in a movie?
So Hinckley was only half pedo. Good to know.
How are they exactly the same size though wtf
Am I missing something?

The 70s were fucking weird.
Who stood in for her while filming the accused?

Wtf
Oh, thank god.
The 70s were wild!

Thank God but still disturbing just the premises of filming it
God I hate reddit comments sometimes.
These comments are just weird
Hollywood is insane
Hollywood has always been telling on themselves and have convinced too many that, “It’s ok if it’s art.”
Same thing in the film *The House At the End of the Lane,* Connie did all of the nude scenes because Jodie was underage.
