2014 tumblr pics would go crazy with these

  2. 0xEmmy より:

Unfortunately I don’t think this would work very well on my friends. “Shortens your life” would probably be considered a selling point.

  3. Holy crap, cigarettes are $45 a pack in Australia?

Edit: So the answer to “How the hell could people possibly afford to smoke in AUS?” is “black market cigarettes.” Which it sounds like black market cigarettes aren’t hard to find in AUS.

  4. ITeachYourKidz より:

I like the flaccid cigarette on the box. Subtle

  5. Australian cigarettes are now largely black market asian cigarettes. SOurced by the triads to the arab crime families who have forcibly taken over tobacconist shops and those who dont hand over their business get fire bombed.

They control the vape sales as well as so many people switched over and nicotine vapes are illegal.

Its bigger than the drug market. We are talking a multi multi billion dollar trade. Theres 4 tobaconists on my main strip up the road.

No one buys genuine legal smokes anymore.

Tax worked wonders on ciggies . Up to a point the govt was raking in billions of dollars in tax but it crossed a threshold and the black market came into effect.

I pay 10 aud for a pack of smokes if i wanted one.

And of course. Big tobacco lobbied heavily in regards to allowing vapes. Most people vape compared to smoke as cigs are basically taboo now. And the medical advisers didnt want to hear a single thing about legalising vapes.

They made vapes fully illegal but u can see cops walking around vaping.

Completely unless as barely anyone still buys “legit” packs these days when “bootleg” are $10 a pack and are literally everywhere now

  7. Sweeper1985 より:

    Aussie here.

This has been escalating for years, with plain packaging, and bigger warnings alongside regular price hikes. A cheap 20 pack of cigarettes went from being (an already high) $15AUD to now being about $40, the highest prices in the world, by far.

As such, in the last few years we have developed a thriving, open and uncontrolled black market. In my small suburb there used to be 1 tobacconist, now there are 3, and they’re all price fixing together so they can share business. Cigarettes are $10 a pack and falling. All from OS, no warnings. They haven’t been this cheap in 25 years or more. Economists are writing snarky articles about how idiotic prohibition policy just still doesn’t work. Lol.

On a less lol note, we used to have regulation around self-extinguishing cigarette butts to help prevent bushfires. Our black market tobacco doesn’t have those. So well done, pollies – increase the bushfire risk too. Fuckers.

  8. Canada has had this forever, along with pictures on the actual packages showing people dying or organs with cancer. They’re gross to look at lol! Which I guess is the point.

  9. invrz より:

Is the point of this to make black market cigarettes instantly distinguishable at a glance?

  10. Reorox より:

Nice, something to read while I chain smoke.

  11. Wind_Best_1440 より:

“If we make smoking super expensive legally, then people will stop smoking and we can rake in tons of money to fund other stuff!”

What actually happens. Multi Trillion dollar global illegal tobacco criminal empire paying super cheap prices for the same product, and since it’s tobacco it isn’t stopped or searched at the port of entry for western countries because they’re technically not illegal.

People still massively smoke and 100% of the money is sent to criminals who profit and don’t even get busted because they don’t need to dodge like if its drugs. Governments get less tax revenue but now need to food more medical bills for people still dying from cancer from smoking because, get this. People enjoy smoking even if they know it kills them.

Same way that people, and get this. Enjoy drinking alcohol, even though it’s killing them. And get this, you know energy drinks? And Caffeine? You got it, bad for you.

    And they still drink it.

Seriously, whoever thought jacking up prices for tobacco must have been on the mafia/cartels payroll, because governments gave them a product society has been using longer then most western countries have even existed.

It’s like prohibition all over again, stupid people. Pay the same hospital bills, but get none of the revenue to pay for them because people will just buy black market smokes.

    Genius. Literally subsidizing criminals.

Gotta get me a pack a these and treat em like fortune cookies

  13. ShakesDontBreak より:

Dying with COPD is brutal and the end of life is terrible and you basically drown in the fluid on your lungs until you end up in hospice and die. Watched loved ones go down that path. Its horrible horrible horrible.

Also, the ink to print those warnings are also toxic. So im not sure thats the best thing to do.

  14. I understand everybody is different but I smoked for 25+ years and I never took a blind bit of notice of these advertisements and campaigns.
I quit because I was ready to, simple as that.

  15. sicklampbro より:

Mamimi from FLCL would love these.

  16. MrWednesday6387 より:

Does this actually work? I knew before I smoked my first cigarette that it was a bad idea and I did it anyway. I knew while I continued to smoke for 20 years.

  17. This would have zero effect on me me when I was smoking.

It kind of makes me lol to think about the designers of this imagining some life changing Hollywood moment as I sit alone in the gutter, in the rain, a broken shell of a man and I look down and see their corny message… suddenly life becomes clear and I become a better man

  18. thisisredlitre より:

Wish they’d go after alcohol like that

  19. As a former smoker that thinks nobody should smoke. Cmon, let the mf smoke at that point. Between common sense, the commercials, the outside packaging, you think they don’t know what they’re doing at that point?

  20. Nor-easter より:

I was scrolling fast and thought it said show your tits

  21. AdvancedFly5632 より:

Is there any evidence to suggest this stuff is actually effective?

  22. WillardWhy より:

So, what you are saying is:

    Australia has blind boxes/booster packs.

Do some warnings have different rarities than others, are there holo-cigarettes?

  23. AgainstTheEnemy より:

God forbid someone have a vice to get through this world with without being made to feel like shit

  24. draven33l より:

Non-smoker here but this is too far. Everyone knows they are bad that smokes them. This isn’t going to help. It’s overreach.

  25. AerialReaver より:

Same thing in Canada. I get my smokes from the rez though, they dont have them. Support local

  26. PonderingHow より:

As well as high taxes, they also made it really difficult and expensive to access nicotine vapes, so the black market for tobacco has exploded and consequences have been really bad. We now have regular reports of serious crime – like bombing of tobacco shops.

  27. Aussie here, I can buy 30g of taxed tobacco for $110aud or 200g of black market tobacco for $85aud….. stupid government won’t admit that they created a shitshow

  28. Dr_Pickle987 より:

    Like yan yans that’s awesome
I wanna buy cigs and collect them all, pokies literally just because a million times more fun cause now I can hit two rare drops table

  29. Just another way to waste money.
My hubby was put on medication, which is supposed to be for PTSD, but has the added side effect of disassociating nicotine with dopamine.

He quit within 4 days, even with me still smoking in front of him. Smoked for over 20 years!

They should be handing out that stuff, not shaming people.

  30. They should just add poison to cigarettes at this point.

    Ohh wait.

    Yeah exactly you stupid shits..

  31. Dominant88 より:

Not like anyone is going to see those. I haven’t seen a pack that wasn’t from the black market in ages.

  32. Indian cigarette boxes has straight up cancer pictures

  33. teutonictoast より:

Imagine if every doritos chip had a different symptom of obesity written on it and 1 in 10 of them just called you fat

  34. Rokador より:

They underestimate how little people care about theirs or surrounding people’s health and life

  35. As a former full time smoker I can tell you that nobody smoking gives a single fuck about these messages. We know it’s poison, it just feels worth it in the moment.

  36. This type of shit had me spite smoking for years.

Just leave smokers alone. They know it sucks and unhealthy but goddamn it they need that little break from whatever is happening. It’s either this or murder

  37. “Shortens your life”? Don’t you tempt me with a good time!!

  38. It’s stuff like this that gives the right ammo about nanny states. To my fellow liberals, we all know cigarettes are bad for you by now. Can we give it a fuckin’ rest going after these “easy wins” and patting ourselves on the back? Can we focus on the working family and class solidarity? Let people smoke in peace. Lung cancer kills quickly and doesn’t bog down the medical system.

  41. Easy, rip the filters off.

  42. Until they find out that the ink is toxic….

  43. FlynnSanOne201 より:

Fuck me how much did that set you back? $80??

  44. javerthugo より:

Like does this even work? We’ve. Known how dangerous smoking is for more that half a century by this point. People still do it why can’t we just let people be dumb?

  45. Reny25 より:

Has this actually helped curb smoking? I’m curious.

  46. Bonk_No_Horni より:

    Smokers know it’s bad.
