I paid about $0.34 per gallon recently. I think it was supposed to be $3.4?, but someone made a mistake when entering the price. My only regret is that I couldn’t take more than what my gas tank could hold.
Our local grocery store has a gasoline rewards program and I usually wind up getting gas for like $.05 a gallon every few months. For reference I spend about $400-$500 a week on groceries.
Edit: we also have 6 cats so that contributes to what we spend. Since so many people are incensed at my expenses lol
My local grocery chain had a reward system for discounts on gas. My family(brother, mom, stepdad, and I) would all use my mom’s rewards number and cash in the rewards every 2-3 months. They didn’t have a limit for the longest time so we’d all go to get gas together. Just keep the pump on and take turns pulling our cars up.
The most we got for the less was 62 gallons for 7. We did that for years til they partnered with a new gas chain and limited it 20 gallons and no less than $1 per gallon.
If you can enter a phone number, I always use Jenny’s number with the local area code: 972-867-5309. Sometimes it doesn’t work but most of time it does.
We get 30 gallons for free regularly using grocery perks card. Wait until extra bonus points for buying gift cards and buy a bunch like Lowes that we know we’ll use over the year and use a credit card with cash back and payoff immediately for extra savings.
I once was on a road trip and stopped at some random gas station in the middle of a bunch of farm land. Started pumping with my tank at empty and the thing is taking forever, to the point I stop and go to a different stall at the same station. Right as I go to turn off the ignition I realize im already half full and had only paid maybe a dollar at the previous stall. Realize somethings up with the pump so go back to the original stall and fill the tank for around $3 total. On my way home I stopped at the same station, same stall and filled it again for about $3.
Around the time I got my permit/license I figured out The local gas station was giving $2 worth of gas in rewards when you purchased a soda which came out to $1.89 so I started buying them by the case.. I can’t remember the exact number but at one point I had roughly $13+ off per gallon, yes- you read that correctly. However, the minimum they could legally sell gas for was something like 1.9 cents. So when I purchased the max 20 gallons My total would be $0.38. My high school had just banned soda so I easily was able to sell the sodas everyday.
Ah, my son worked for a specific grocery chain that had a gas deal . When a customer didn’t have a rewards account , they would just punch in the store phone number. My son punched it into a gas pump one day and it had an ungodly amount of gas reward points . To my knowledge he never told a soul and still uses it all these years later .
Sometimes the restaurant I work for will forget to order things so I’ll go pick it up at Kroger and pay for it all on the company card but use my Kroger points number and get huge gas benefits. Probably a morally gray area but why not take advantage of
I did this before by filling up my work truck daily which was about 40-45 gallons. I used the rewards because the company didn’t. And I would basically wait until my car was on E, last time I filled my tank up for like 2 bucks.
I once discovered a bug for a gas station app, I used my points (which I get a ton for free when I refuel my work truck) and bought 50 cents off per gallon, I then just closed my app and reopened it which effectively returned all my spent points and kept the 50 cent per gallon coupon.
so as someone who used to work at a gas station, I think I know what happened.
an employee has access to the price controls for the pumps, and set the price to .01 per gallon so either they or their friends could fill up for basically free.
what they forgot to do was pump a few gallons at regular price so the computer doesn’t show the last sale was for .01 per gallon.
Man, I drove about 3,000 miles across the country for a move and paid less than $40 in gas. My partner had a Home Depot rewards Shell card from their construction company and they spend so much that it was frequently $0.019/gallon. We only had to pay $30 odd dollars for the very last tank.
When we were in Oregon the attendants that pumped gas always thought the pumps were broken, so I got in the habit of warning them pre pump that my tank was about to be essentially free.
Needless to say, that rewards program no longer exists.
I pulled up to get gas a few months back and some woman was trying to get my attention. Ignored her at first thinking it was some scam but turned out she had a ton of fuel points and only was using like 15 of the 25 or whatever gallons at the price which was like 3 cents. Pulled my car up closer and got the 20 cents worth she couldn’t use. I legit had only like a buck or two cash on me asked if she wanted it and said no. Filled up my car the rest of the way for like 20 bucks.
In the petrol/gas station i work at we were told we had to close when prices changed. We had a new manager and when we had a price change we started closing. The manager asked what we were doing and she said we could change it whilst people were filling. Anyway a few people got fuel at 1 pence per litre before she started running round the forecourt telling everyone to stop fuelling.
I remember one Christmas season there was a gas pump Iwas at that got stuck at something like 2.50 and never moved. so me and a few others got a full tank for less than 3 bucks…its was Christmas Miracle!
I did this a lot when I worked for Instacart in like 2016-2018. I tied their credit card to my gas rewards account at the grocery store. So, I would work all shift buying groceries, spending 1000-2000 a day many days, and then I would get 5 cents off per hundred.
I would also give away gas. I would go to the gas station and fill my tank up, but it lets you buy up to 25 gallons at the reduced price (which for me was the minimum, 1.9 cents per gallon) and my car only held 15-16 gallons so I would give away the remaining 10 gallons if I could. I also kept several of the big 5 gallon gas cans full all the time, and would give that gas away or use it.
Im assuming they used a rebate system in which they used points for a free 15 gallon fill up, and that .15 was from that .03 gallons, which would put that gas at about 5 dollars per gallon
I worked at a Point of Sale software company that had interfaces to gas pump systems. In our QA lab we had the guts of a Pay-At-The-Pump system along with a control box to simulate picking up the nozzle, pumping gas, etc.
Our whiz bang QA person found a bug in the PATP system where he could change the price of gas right from the pump keypad. There were some odd rules, like the price always had to end in a ‘9’… so he would set gas at 1.9c/gal and virtually pump away. Crazy.
Originally we thought it might just be the system they shipped us – like a macro or shortcut for QA testing – but he reported it to the manufacturer and they got real quiet on the call. It was something that they had shipped into the field. This was the 90s when nothing was really connected to the internet so this meant shipping disks to gas station managers – who couldn’t be trusted to do anything technical, or sending field agents out to patch systems. Whoopsie!
I once saw the person in front of me had bought like $.75 of gas, which I thought was super weird. Then I saw him leaving the gas station on one of those insanely tiny little novelty clown motorcycles. He did not look like he was riding it for fun though as he was on a busy highway frontage road. Can’t argue with the mileage I guess
We had a similar event but not as extreme. GF was out pumping premium and she came to my door and said “look at the pump”, it was set for 50¢ / gallon. Cant imagine how that could happen with modern and multiple pumps.
Giant Eagle used to have points to save…I didn’t have a car then, but I’d give my points to my neighbor and she could fill hers for free or next to nothing (she drove me to the store) It was a nice perk 🙂 They changed the program a bit ago, and it would be difficult to get that much in groceries now for a fully free tank.

Kroger related grocery stores have a rebate of up to $2/gal. Got gas for free during 2020 when gas was well below $2/gal.
Most of these places will limit to 20 gallons. Shame on this person for not filling up a plastic shopping bag with another 5 gallons (Florida style).

Where is this? I need to go 😭

My dad used to work handyman jobs. I’ll never forget his weird ritual:
Go to a Kroger, spend all of the job money there on Lowe’s gift cards
Get Kroger points or whatever they’re called for that discount on gas
Fill up for next to nothing, bonus points if you can get a second car through the pump and fill up twice with the discount
Proceed to Lowe’s and spend job money as per usual, buying materials for whatever job he had going on
Person behind the counter hooked their wife up

I used to get this price at Kroger. Good 6 years paying few cents per gallon. Now I drive EV so don’t need it

We all need to learn this cheat code.. I believe it’s ⬇️➡️➡️⬇️⬅️🟢🎮

The crime here is they only got 15 gallons worth at that price.
So basically they only paid for the tax.

I got basically free gas a couple of times.
I paid one cent per gallon at BJs Warehouse after buying a TV when they had a promo. I took every extra gas can I had to get whatever the max was.

1932 prices
idk if it’s been deactivated already but if you go to kroger and use Mike Jones’ number, there’s usually gas points to use lol
This one simple trick that gas stations hate…
What store was this at?

I do that with Casey’s once in a while! It’s nice to be rewarded for spending so much there all the time 😂
Sheetz in the northeast of the US has rewards points. I save all my points till the end of the year. I’ve been doing this for the past several years
