For those wondering, it appears to be a very complex design of a rotating retractable magician’s cane with an LED strip inside. Here’s his video about it: https://youtu.be/0QArAMtBGx8?si=F3RPuMSNxCSqscOe
Disney patented a lightsaber like that a few years ago and actually produced a couple for use in shows. Essentially it’s a tape measure covered in LED lights with a little motor that pushes it out and pulls it back in. There were even that patent images online showing the basic idea. The issue was the blade was flimsy as fuck and you couldn’t even wave it around that much.
I am in no way trying to lessen what this dude did. He built an amazing lightsaber and I want one!
That’s the longer clip showing the build process that the vid in the OP is excepting from. Great vid. amazing build. I’ll have to buy one of etsy once people start assembling it from his plans!
I love everyones reaction, especially at the end how they’re curious how it works. Never attended a con but this makes me want to. Seems like its full of great people.
I love the flash of fear in some of their eyes. It looks so good that for a split second, they seem to think it’s real, and they think they are fucked before the joy sets in
I use to go to school with the creator of that lightsaber, the guy in the video. His name is Jacob Uy. We grew up in Singapore together. We use to play laser tag and play with miniature Star Wars figurines and wack the hell out of each other with sticks we found on the ground, pretending to be Jedi Knights.
It has made me so proud seeing his videos and his confidence to start his own company, Hero Tech. I can’t wait to see what other pieces of cinema he can bring to life.

I love how everyone immediately does the Luke thing and looks directly into the business end of the lightsaber.

I see his Schwartz is as big as mine.

Oh cool I love Star Trek!
This is the Jedi she told you not to worry about.
Some serious lightsaber envy going on in this video

I would injure myself immediately with that thing.
How did we go from a high quality 4k video of the original down to this zoomed in slop.
Here is the original if anyone is interested.
How?

Hokey religions and ancient weapons are not a good match for a blaster at your side
This is why comicon is so great. Only place in the world this dude can be the coolest guy in the room. Good for him!
Any explanation or links for how it works?

Like 15 clips of the thing and they managed to fit the whole saber in frame like twice.
