Wait, was its jaw broken? How did this happen to begin with? Poor turtle didn’t even try to bite

That’s what moms do when kids eat something they shouldn’t.

  3. Looks like that turtle needed more help tbh :/ could it even close it’s jaw?

Need more info. Why was her mouth always open?

  6. Poor turtle has a broken lower jaw. So sad.

I liked those barnacle videos until i learned that some of those “helpful” people glue barnacles and other things to turtles so they can remove them on the videos.

  8. MrContractual より:

That turtle has a broken jaw, that’s why barnacles were building up in it since it was staying open

I am truly sorry to ruin what you probably thought was a heartwarming video of someone helping an animal out. Stop reading now if you want to continue believing that.

I have been a scuba and free diver for 39 years. I love seeing sea turtles and have seen probably 100-200 while diving and over 1000 while on a boat. From hatchings to gigantic leatherbacks weighing 2000 lbs. It never fails to make me happy. While you see some growth on a turtle, mostly it is on its shell but can be elsewhere on its body where the filter feeding organisms get plenty of flowing water.

Turtles keep their mouths closed normally unless they are actively eating so there is no water flow to provide food for barnacles or other filter feeders. I have spent many years growing corals and other sea life in my salt water reef aquarium and learned that without water flow bringing them regular food things just can’t grow. If somehow something attached inside their mouth it would die from lack of food due to almost 0 water flow.

Here is the disgusting part, they clearly broke the turtle’s jaw and super glued a bunch of growth in their mouth to make a video where they “helped” a turtle. The jaw is not at a natural angle and it makes no attempt to close it at any point, even when placed into the water it just flops around. The reason I know this is if a turtle had a broken jaw naturally, it would maybe live 2-4 weeks before dying since it can’t feed itself. There is absolutely no way for what is clearly way over a year of growth to attach ONLY inside their mouth in that time. Why not on the shell or elsewhere on its body where there was always plenty of water flow at all times?

The first time I saw a video like this, it made me happy, but it only involved cleaning an outrageous amount of growth off a small turtle’s shell. I had never seen anything like it in nature, but perhaps it could happen. Then the algorithm started sending more videos of people cleaning off cute hatchings that were far younger than the huge barnacles and growth they were scrapping off. I rolled my eyes and accepted it since it shouldn’t do any lasting damage to the turtle. However, this video is some straight up evil shit, and I have to say something. They broke it’s jaw to make a video for views. It will now starve to death. Unfortunately, there are some real psychopaths out there that will do anything for views since they equal money.

Edit: Someone pointed out it will most likely drown since it can’t keep water out of its mouth when trying to breathe. They are probably right. At least it will be quick.

    What about the eyes :/

  12. illstealyourRNA より:

I work with sea turtles, and this turtle will die a slow and painful death due to starvation without medical attention as It has a broken jaw (often seen from boat propellers in experience).

Also ill warn about content ike this, it is unfortunately often faked by glueing barnacles on to turtles or even worse by intentionally injuring them, never belive this kind of content (including rescue of other species) unless it is from a trusted sorce.

  13. LtMotion より:

This feels dodgy.. surely itd try to bite him.. its mouth stays open after.. almost like its forced open.. how does all that crap get stuck in its teeth?

    I smell fake rescue content

  14. This better not be one of those manufactured videos where they attach the barnacles to the turtle just to shoot a video “helping” them. These have been called out before in the past.

    Out of network dental plan.

  16. blusteryflatus より:

I thought they were pumpkin seeds at first. I was very confused as to why a turtle would have a mouthful of sticky pumpkin seeds.

I know they are barnacles now.

  17. That turtle’s jaw seems toast and it cannot close its mouth, that must be how the barnacle found their way in there and why it doesn’t bite the hand going in its mouth.

  18. What is that in his mouth?

  19. If this is around Florida, If you find an injured, stranded, or otherwise distressed sea turtle in Florida, contact the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) Division of Law Enforcement immediately at 1-888-404-FWCC (3922) or #FWC or *FWC on your mobile phone. For Broward County, you can also call the Broward County Sea Turtle Emergency Hotline at 954-328-0580.

There are rescue facilities that will rehabilitate the turtles and release them back to the wild if possible. If not they provide a safe environment for them to live the rest of their life in as best conditions as possible.

If you are around in Florida they are worth a visit. They do a great job.

  20. Something still feels wrong 🙁 why is the mouth still open

  21. ttpharmd より:

There’s something more wrong with that turtle than the barnacles. He would have bit your hand off, helping or not.

  22. Gotta wonder why it’s mouth is stuck open

  23. popdivtweet より:

I’m from fishing village in the Caribbean. The time it takes barnacles to grow that big… Nah, this vid is sus af.

  24. I’d say the sea turtles done sadly..the barnacles wouldn’t just grow there of that was a normally functioning mouth …looks like a broken Jaw….which has been open for a while…can’t see how he can feed really?

  25. I know it’s a great favor but.. why he kept throwing everything back to the sea? Shouldn’t they be kept in a garage bag ot sth?

  26. lumberfart より:

Okay… WHAT exactly do barnacles do? Like wtf do they contribute to the ecosystem? Because I’m about ready to pour some CRISPR edited bleach into the ocean to help my turtle and whale homies.

  27. DeadSeaGulls より:

reporting for animal violence/abuse. that jaw is clearly broken, but a turtle with a broken jaw could not live long enough for this level of barnacle growth. Someone glued those barnacles there, and it’s possible that they are also the ones that broke the turtles jaw to facilitate this video.

  30. oolbar より:

I worked in a turtle rescue centre and I’m pretty sure this turtle had bigger problems than some barnacle in its mouth. It probably had some sort of digestive system infection we were seeing in some turtles coming with barnacle infestation.

Unfortunately, it’s almost impossible to save them after some point because their calcium metabolism usually collapse after getting no food and unable to digest it properly over long periods and their renal system just collapses after some point.

You see it move it’s head and tongue but in reality it’s barely alive and probably mostly in a vegetative state.

    Poor thing.

  31. 4n0m4l7 より:

Strange, it didn’t seem to close its jaw once in the water when you look carefully. Perhaps broken… poor turtle..

  32. g_d_david より:
