  • Max Sirena and the Luna Rossa America’s Cup team are taking part in the historical re-enactment of the 1000 Miglia aboard a 1956 Alfa Romeo 1900 Super Sprint, a part of the Stellantis heritage collection, usually on display at the Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese

  • The 2025 edition of the 1000 Miglia is the perfect stage for the dynamic public debut of the new 33 Stradale, a modern Italian masterpiece produced in a limited series in collaboration with Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera

  • Alfa Romeo will also showcase the current line-up as support cars, including the Tonale C-SUV, the Junior Ibrida and the Giulia Quadrifoglio Super Sport, a tribute to the brand’s first victory at the historic 1000 Miglia

On 17 June, the 43rd edition of the 1000 Miglia will start in Brescia, returning to the city on 21 June. In the famous words of Enzo Ferrari, the “most beautiful race in the world” will visit some of the most evocative locations in Italy. Part race and part adventure, this year’s 1000 Miglia will see more than 400 classic cars from 29 countries taking part. The route of approximately 1,900km winds along a figure-of-eight inspired by that of the first 12 editions of the 1000 Miglia speed race.

The Alfa Romeo name has been inextricably linked to the 1000 Miglia since its earliest days, with 11 victories between 1928 and 1957, a record that stands as a testament to the technical prowess and sporting excellence of the Biscione brand. A standout in this year’s starting grid is the 1956 Alfa Romeo 1900 Super Sprint, a sleek sports coupé favoured by gentleman drivers of the 1950s. Part of the priceless Stellantis heritage collection, usually on display at the Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese, it will be driven by the Luna Rossa team, led by Max Sirena, Skipper and Team Director of Luna Rossa.

The participation of the Luna Rossa team alongside Alfa Romeo in the 1000 Miglia, reinforces the bond between two Italian icons united by the shared values: a relentless pursuit of technical perfection, a passion for challenge and the commitment to represent the excellence of Italian talent and creativity on the global stage. The announcement of the crew at the wheel of the 1900 Super Sprint seals the strategic partnership between the two brands, recently announced through a video, ahead of the 38th America’s Cup, the world’s most prestigious sailing competition which, for the first time, will be held in Italy in the Bay of Naples. It is no coincidence that Alfa Romeo and Luna Rossa meet along the 1000 Miglia, as both names are linked to legendary events that represent the absolute pinnacle in their respective worlds – motor racing and sailing – where team spirit and unwavering determination are needed to face the most ambitious challenges.

1956 Alfa Romeo 1900 Super Sprint

The Alfa Romeo to be driven at the event by the Luna Rossa team is an elegant coupé with bodywork by Touring that represents the ‘gran turismo’ class of the 20th century, ‘the family car that wins races’, made famous in the 1950s. Based on the short-wheelbase chassis of the 1900 saloon, the car is powered by a 2-litre 4-cylinder engine featuring the characteristic Alfa Romeo twin camshaft that delivers an output of 115hp at 5,500 rpm. In the 1950s, it was customary for the great Italian designers to buy a mechanised chassis from Alfa Romeo, complementing it with bodywork designed and produced in-house. The Milan-based Touring workshop did just that, producing 858 models of this final series of the 1900 Sprint between 1955 and 1958. The 1900 Super Sprint was considered by the drivers and private teams of the time as the car of choice to achieve victory in its class: its road holding, speed and reliability made it a winner mainly in the Touring class.

Along the route of the 1000 Miglia, the priceless classic car will be accompanied by the latest additions to the brands line-up serving as support cars. Alfa Romeo will field the powerful Giulia Quadrifoglio Super Sport, a special limited series that dedicated to the brand’s first victory at the 1000 Miglia. Alongside it, an Alfa Romeo Tonale, the C-SUV that marked the brand’s entry into the era of electrification and recently exceeded the milestone of 100,000 units produced at the Stellantis plant in Pomigliano d’Arco, a symbol of Italian manufacturing excellence.

Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale makes its dynamic public debut

The spotlight will be on the new 33 Stradale, making its dynamic public debut for the first time. The custom-built car produced in only 33 units represents the return of the legendary 33 Stradale, an icon of the 1960s, widely regarded by many to be one of the most beautiful cars of all time and derived directly from the Tipo 33, a celebrated name in the world of motorsport. Like the 1900 Super Sprint competing in the race, the Biscione brand’s new custom-built car also benefits from the expert craftmanship of Milan’s Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera, through a one-off process that combines the utmost in artisanship and innovation. The current and heritage line-ups create a bridge between the past and the present, embodying unmistakable Italian style.

Along the 1000 Miglia route in 2025 will also be the Alfa Romeo Junior, the Biscione brand’s new compact sports car marking its entry into the premium B-segment. Modern, agile and equipped with cutting technology, the Junior stands out for its assertive design and driving dynamics that demonstrate the authentic Alfa Romeo spirit.

The 2025 edition of the 1000 Miglia coincides with an anniversary of significant importance for Alfa Romeo: 95 years ago, Tazio Nuvolari and Giovanni Battista Guidotti triumphed at the 1000 Miglia aboard the Alfa Romeo 6C 1750. It was Nuvolari’s first overall victory in the “most beautiful race in the world” and the first time an average of 62mph was exceeded across the entire route, a remarkable achievement considering the dirt roads of the time.

On the winding roads of the 1000 Miglia or in the waves of the America’s Cup, Alfa Romeo and Luna Rossa are racing side by side towards the future. United by the shared drive to excel, innovate and proudly represent Italy in the world’s most iconic and competitive arenas. A challenge that goes beyond the boundaries of sport and becomes a story of identity and vision, demonstrating that innovation and tradition can go hand in hand, guided by the same passion for beauty, technique and performance. This is how Italy continues to inspire the world.
