The most unexpected thing I got from this video was that I expected more recoil from the cable. Something more like a trebuchet release.

Edit: They are built in sections and the cables move up with the sections.

No kidding. That’s not one cable, that was every cable from that anchor point. The remaining cables are going to pull the tower over immediately.

It does exactly what you would expect a mast to do, which is fall since a mast depends on the presence of guy-wires to stand. A tower is self-supporting and should stand without the guy-wires, though they can be added for extra support in, eg, high wind.

Most of the time the support cables have a fence around them that is locked. I would imagine to prevent this from happening
I did this for about 7 years. Build, maintain, and demo towers. You need to over tighten the remaining 2 sets of guyed wires at their respective anchors first. Cleanup can be a chore afterward. I’m surprised they didn’t save the dishes. The copper on the wave guide is worth a pretty penny as well. Fun job. Dangerous job. My wife urged me to quit after seeing a death a week in the industry social pages.
